AFOLU Expert

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), via the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC), is recruiting an AFOLU (Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use) Expert for a part-time individual consultancy. The core objective is to strengthen and update the AFOLU mitigation component within the Greenhouse Gas Abatement Cost Model (GACMO), a key bottom-up emissions projection tool utilized by developing countries for national reporting. The consultant will conduct a comprehensive technical review of current AFOLU technology tables, update economic and emissions parameters, and develop 5 to 10 new mitigation options such as climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, and carbon sequestration. The role ensures full alignment with the 2006 IPCC Guidelines, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) protocols, and Article 6 guidance under the UNFCCC. Operating remotely across 28 working days, the selected expert will deliver updated calculation logic, integrated datasets, quality assurance documentation, and technical notes to enhance national mitigation planning and Biennial Transparency Reports.
